Yet a signalling-pathway namesake of hedgehog may have two great tricks that could be exploited for cancer therapy. Molecular signalling pathways that control the growth of cancer cells have been heralded as prime targets for the treatment of a broad spectrum of tumours. Of particular interest is the hedgehog pathway, which normally is involved in development but whose abnormal activity is thought to drive the proliferation of cancer cells.
